Most wineries can take great estate grapes from Napa and make wonderfully expensive Cabernet Sauvignon. Very few will offer you the same quality of estate grapes for less than half the price. Stratton Lummis makes only two wines. Its Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the heart of the Napa Valley's best grape estates. Its un-oaked Chardonnay comes from the heart of Carneros where it captures flavors and depth missing in other non-oaked wines. It has been a long time since you tasted California Chardonnay like this.

Chardonnay, 2009 - Los Carneros

Stratton Lummis Chardonnay comes exclusively from one single vineyard in Carneros. The Dijon clone grapes for this wine are sourced from the historic Mulas Ranch off of Ramal Road in the rolling hills of the Sonoma Carneros. The proximity to San Pablo Bay is what makes Carneros special for Chardonnay by providing a slow and gentle ripening period for these delicate grapes. The soils of the Carneros region are predominately clay and very thin and shallow providing poor drainage and fertility. Winds coming off the bay encourages the grapes to struggle forcing them to ripen with intense rich flavors often tropical. Originally dairy farmers the Mulas family (now four generations in Carneros) has always been committed to farming grapes and dairy sustainably.

The grapes from this single vineyard are the finest Dijon clones grown in the best region in California for Chardonnay - Carneros. Stratton Lummis Chardonnay is cold fermented, rests on the lees of specially selected yeasts for over ten months and undergoes a slow 100% malo-lactic fermentation

Tasting notes: Layers of juicy white peaches, crisp Fuji apples, and fragrant white flowers are balanced with perfect acidity and rich minerality to give our Chardonnay a long-lasting finish. We need no oak.

Chardonnay, 2006 - Los Carneros

The grapes are whole cluster crushed directly to press. The juice is then fermented completely dry in a stainless steel fermenter. Fermentation is between 55F to 70F and lasts for a period of eight weeks. After fermentation, the wine remains on its initial fermentation lees for approximately 60 days. The wine is then racked and inocculated with malo-lactic bacteria. Because of the temperature of the wine, the malo-lactic fermentation takes almost six months. The remaining lees are stirred continually. The wine is chilled to 40F where it rests until bottling.

Tasting notes: A light color is matched by zesty natural acidity which balances the richness and depth this wine has on the finish. Because NO OAK is used in aging, the delicate aromas of pears, lemons and peaches shine through. This wine is the perfect marriage of the best of Chablis and Carneros.

Cabernet Sauvignon, 2008 - Napa Valley

Stratton Lummis Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the very heart of the Napa Valley. It is a blend of Oakville and Rutherford. Because of the price that we sell this wine, we are not allowed to discuss the name of the primary vineyard. The wine has to do its talking for us. Taste it and tell us if you think there is a better Cabernet Sauvignon for the price.

Tasting notes: Aromas of dark wild berries and fragrant flowers. Flavors of black cherries, elegantly balanced with hints of Rutherford soil.
