Roudon Smith Winery

This wooden winery is tucked in a beautiful and sunny setting within the redwood trees. The double-joined name originates from Bob Roudon and Jim Smith, 2 Engineers who made an exciting career change to winemaking back in 1972. With recent retirement in 2003, the 3rd generation Santa Cruz Hunt family took over with an obligation to continue to produce fine wines that reflect the high standards and styles that were achieved over the years.

The winery is dedicated to the production of exceptional wines from the vineyards of the Santa Cruz Mountains, including their award winning estate-grown Chardonnay. Roudon Smith's traditional wine-making methods result in elegant, long-lived wines.

Rose of Syrah - 2008, Paso Robles

Beginning with a bouquet of strawberries and watermelon, this wine leads to a crisp refreshing mid-palate and a nice lingering finish. Featuring Local Artwork form Denise Kiser-Shaw.

Claret - 2008, California

The Santa Cruz Mountain's only Claret! This Syrah, Zinfandel, Merlot blend provides a nice balance between dark fruits, oak and tannin structure.

Cabernet Franc - 2006, Monterey

The oak aromas and flavor have integrated very well with the overall character of the wine. Aroma of cherries, vanilla and lavender. Fruit up front with the oak carrying it to the finish line with lots of structure.

Chardonnay - 2007, Russian River Valley

A classic creamy and full-bodied Russian River Chardonnay, the bouquet is filled with tropical and citrus fruits with hints of vanilla and hazelnut. This is a Chardonnay must have!

Cabernet Sauvignon - 2006, Paso Robles

Aged for 17 months in American oak casks adds a nice backdrop of aromas and flavors to the fruit of black currant and black cherry. The finish is crisp and lingering.

Chardonnay - 2007, Santa Cruz Mountain Estate, Private Reserve

Our Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay showcases the varietal's fruit from our wine growing region in its full splendor. With pineapple, citrus and grapefruit on the nose, and the character of the fruit displayed up front, this carefully crafted wine then shows a slight herbal accent in the mid-palate with a light touch of oak. Aged for 9 months in French oak barrels; 25% new, only 171 cases produced.

Duet - 2006, Central Valley, Private Reserve

This wine was meticulously crafted using selected individual barrels that exhibited the highest quality and attribute, which were then blended to create a nice balance of oak, fruit, tannins and acid. Showing wild berries and black cherries up front, this wine has good tannins carrying through, with mocha chocolate and oak tannins lingering into a well-balanced and clean finish. This wine will cellar nicely for the next 5-8 years. Only 117 cases produced.

Our Santa Cruz Mountain Pinot Noir elegantly displays many of the characteristics found in our grape growing region. With a bouquet filled with raspberries and cherries, and a hint of chocolate and spice, the luscious fruit of this wine fills the whole mouth. Showing cinnamon mid-palate notes and a nice oak finish, this well-balanced and food-friendly wine complements a wide variety of menus.
