Located in the Santa Cruz Mountains Appellation, Fernwood Cellars makes a variety of estate wines including Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Syrah. Each evening, the fog from the ocean creeps up the mountains, then stops just short of the canyon where the Fernwood Cellars vineyards are located. As a result, the cold maritime climate intrudes into the warm valley air, cooling the vines.

Fernwood Cellars is dedicated to the production of wines that reflect the vineyard's unique microclimate, while showcasing the inherent characteristics of each varietal.

Chardonnay - 2009, Santa Cruz Mountains

New from the Estate of Vanumanutagi Vineyards, we are proud to offer this Chardonnay. This storied vineyard has been producing phenomenal wines for over twenty years. Originally part of our family ranch, the property was sold to Fanny Stevenson, Robert Louis Stevenson's widow. After several owners since, the property was purchased by Leonard Ware. He and his family planted the Vanumanutagi vineyard and have been phenomenal caretakers of this beautiful property. Dedicated to our daughter born in 2007, this wine continues the long and celebrated tradition of the vineyard. With lush, tropical fruit tones on the palate, there are distinct floral aromas which complete the overall sensation. This wine drinks wonderfully now and will continue to do so for the next 4-5 years

Cabernet Sauvignon - 2008, Redwood Retreat

In the pattern of this Santa Cruz Mountains vineyard, this classically made wine has the subtle nuances of cocoa and spice, while still having the tannic backbone to make it a wine which deserves to be treasured for years to come. Aged 20 months in 100%
French oak barrels, this wine shows the finesse of this estate vineyard, while suggesting the best is yet to come. This wine will be at its best over the next 6 to 9 years.
