Downhill Winery: Small Batches of Delicious Wine

Located in Los Gatos, Downhill wines are made in small batches, with fanatical attention to detail. From the meticulous evaluation and review of each vineyard source, to the intense intricacies of the fermentation, to the choice of oak barrels, Downhill's goal is to coax the best wine that each cluster of grapes has to offer.

Rose of Barbera Rosato - 2008, Califrnia
$15.00

Made from Barbera grapes, this unique rosé boasts layers of flavor, yet is refreshing anytime. My Rose has developed quite a following! We sold out quickly last year. A great warm weather wine, but it’s also great any time, before a meal or all by itself. Serve chilled.

Bordeaux Styled Red Blend "Slipstream" Alexander Valley
$16.00

downhill

65% Merlot / 35% Cabernet Blend

Fragrances of rose petals and blackberries, black coffee, vanilla and leather introduce an openly structured palate of blueberry-cherry, brambles, cocoa and caramel.

Torrontes - 2008, California White Table Wine
$15.00

Long considered one of the national wines of Argentina, one of my favorite vineyards has now produced a domestic version. Imagine a light white wine with fragrances of peach, melon and orange blossom, bright and refreshing. Only 12% alcohol. Truly a unique wine!

Syrah and Grenache Blend - 2006, Santa Cruz Mountains
$18.00

downhill

The deep complex flavors of the mountain-grown Syrah is beautifully matched with the delicate perfumed Grenache. A delicious Rhone-style blend.

Barbera "Susannah's - 2007, California
$18.00

A more fruit-forward version of Barbera, light bodied, and goes great with almost any kind of food. This is a blend of two vineyards in the Sierra Mountain Foothills.

Chardonnay - 2007, Santa Lucia Highlands
$20.00

A crisp clean Chardonnay from Sleepy Hollow in Santa Lucia Highlands, lightly oaked, with fresh tropical fruit flavors. A wonderfully different take on heavy, over-oaked Chardonnays.

Zinfandel - 2006, Dry Creek Valley, Primitivo Clone
$20.00

downhill

This delicious Primitivo clone Zinfandel is grown by George Unti in the beautiful Dry Creek Valley in Healdsburg.

With sweet fragrances of mocha, earthy black fruit, winter spices and brambles, this rich ripe wine opens up to flavors of blackberries and chocolate-dipped strawberries, spice cake and espresso. This is a Zinfandel-lovers’ Zinfandel.

Barbera "Alessia" - 2007, Amador County
$22.00

From Cooper Vineyards in the Shenendoah Valley, this 100% Barbera is full of bright red cherries and brambly spice. Picture drinking it on a grassy California hillside on a warm summer day.

Chardonnay - 2006, Santa Cruz Mountain, Peter Martin Ray Vineyard
$2
3.00

downhill

Martin Ray began planting Chardonnay, Cabernet and Pinot Noir back in the 1940's, beginning with the Mountain Winery, and later he established Mount Eden Vineyards. His son Peter has maintained the tradition and still farms many of the same vines his father planted above Saratoga. This is a truly historic vineyard, and the vines produce a complexity and minerality that reflects the Santa Cruz Mountain appellation. This is one for the cellar to continue to improve over the next 7 to 8 years.

Cabernet Sauvignon - 2005, Napa Valley, Giuliani Vineyards
$28.00

downhill

This rich and sumptuous Napa Cabernet offers deep flavors of chocolate, leather and Mediterranean herbs, with black cherry and olallieberry fruit, hints of black licorice and smoke, soft tannins and a lingering smooth smokey finish. A delicious wine and a great value.

Pinot Noir - 2006, Santa Cruz Mountains, Peter Martin Vineyard
$28.00

downhill

In the spirit of famed winemaker Martin Ray, from the vineyards he planted himself, this Pinot is made in the old world style. A beautiful wine with clear Santa Cruz Mountain profile, dark earthy qualities reminiscent of black tar and sandlewood. Opens up to fragrances and flavors of cherry cola, showing the spicier side of Pinot, with oak notes of pipe tobacco, cinnamon and cloves, hints of anise from the fruit, caraway seed, and fragrances of crushed dried blackberry leaves and forest duff.
